Salary: USD 163,000 - 263,670 / annual
LaunchDarkly is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Flag Delivery team, responsible for the critical-path systems that stream feature-flag configuration to every connected SDK globally in near real time. This is added headcount on a growing team focused on building the next generation of flag-delivery architecture, streaming rollouts, and reliability and scale hardening.
You will own and operate distributed systems running at high scale that must remain reliable, low-latency, and correct. The tech stack includes Go, AWS, Terraform, and Datadog, though deep backend expertise and a proven track record of owning production systems matter more than exact tool familiarity.
Key responsibilities include designing, building, and operating distributed systems for feature-flag delivery; owning and improving reliability, latency, and scalability of streaming and polling infrastructure; debugging and resolving complex production issues as part of the on-call rotation; partnering with SDK, Core Product, and Data Platform teams; writing maintainable, well-tested code and engaging in code reviews and design reviews; driving architectural decisions that balance performance, cost, and operability; and raising the bar on observability, deployment safety, and operational processes.
Required qualifications: 6+ years of professional backend engineering with significant work on distributed or high-throughput production systems; proven track record designing, building, operating, and debugging reliable, low-latency services; strong production ownership including on-call experience and focus on reliability and observability; proficiency in at least one backend language (Go, Rust, Python) and comfort on a cloud platform (AWS or equivalent); hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or equivalent) and observability tooling (Datadog, Prometheus, New Relic); deep grasp of distributed-systems fundamentals including concurrency, partitioning, retries, idempotency, backpressure, and failure handling; ability to write clean, maintainable code and collaborate on technical design; and clear communication with a high bar for operational excellence.
