LaunchDarkly is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own the billing systems that power revenue generation across the platform. In this role, you will design and build systems that define plans, pricing, entitlements, and usage limits, exposing them through robust APIs. You'll lead the modernization of the billing platform by decomposing it from the monolith into correct, testable, and independently deployable services.
Key responsibilities include designing pricing and entitlement systems, owning correctness end-to-end (usage metering, reconciliation, invoicing), and operating what you build with strong SLOs, alerting, and on-call practices. You'll work with Go, TypeScript, Postgres, AWS, and Terraform, though tool expertise matters less than deep backend judgment and a proven track record of safely modifying systems where correctness is non-negotiable.
Required qualifications: 6+ years of professional software engineering with significant backend application experience, demonstrated expertise decomposing monoliths, and a track record working on systems requiring high correctness (idempotency, reconciliation, reversible migrations, safe cutovers). You must be proficient in at least one backend language (Go, Rust, Python, etc.), familiar with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent), and have strong production ownership including on-call experience.
Bonus experience includes billing, payments, metering systems, usage-based pricing, or modeling entitlements, quotas, and multi-tenant limits. This is an individual contributor role focused on technical depth and system ownership rather than people management.
