FreedomPay is seeking a Senior Android Software Engineer to join a world-class engineering team building the FreedomPay Commerce Platform, a unified technology stack powering payment solutions for major enterprises across retail, hospitality, gaming, sports, entertainment, foodservice, education, healthcare, and financial services.
In this role, you will develop next-generation SDKs, tools, and mobile applications that process millions and potentially billions of payment transactions. You will work on apps that integrate directly with payment terminal hardware and manage unattended, kiosk-mode Android devices deployed in the field. Your responsibilities include analyzing, designing, programming, debugging, and modifying complex software features; improving performance of existing systems; participating in and leading code reviews and technical meetings; recommending new technologies to increase productivity; and contributing to project planning and estimates.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 6+ years of Android experience building applications or libraries
- 4+ years of Kotlin experience
- Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose (Compose-first, XML/View-free environment)
- Strong object-oriented programming experience
- Strong experience with Kotlin Coroutines and Flow for multithreaded and asynchronous programming
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
- Ability to design, plan, and implement features based on product requirements
- Experience interfacing with RESTful services and consuming JSON or XML
- Familiarity with Git and source control tools
- Experience working in large, multi-module Android projects (15+ modules) with dependency injection (Dagger/Hilt)
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent multitasking skills in fast-paced environments
- Commitment to industry best practices in source code control, architecture, coding structure, and unit/system testing
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Material Design 3 or modern Android design systems experience
- Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) development
- Unit testing with dependency injection (JUnit, Kotest, MockK/Mockito)
- Experience communicating with external devices over sockets or serial protocols (TCP/IP, USB, Bluetooth), particularly POS/payment terminal hardware
- Experience integrating multiple third-party or vendor SDKs behind shared abstraction layers
- Unattended or kiosk-mode Android device management (device admin, persistent launcher apps, remote provisioning)
- Agile/Scrum experience
- Creating and consuming AARs/JARs, including private Maven repositories (Artifactory/JFrog)
- Continuous integration tooling (Azure Pipelines, SonarQube, code coverage)
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot)
- Understanding of data security, encryption, PCI/EMV compliance, and data privacy regulations
