Twilio is seeking a Senior AI Architect for Conversational AI to lead the company's long-term vision for AI/ML capabilities powering customer engagement. This is a distinguished technical leadership role combining strategic architecture with hands-on engineering.
You will define and drive Twilio's AI/ML architectural vision, focusing on how data and memory power next-generation customer engagement. Key responsibilities include owning the strategic roadmap for the ML/AI Ops platform, evaluating and implementing modern LLM architectures (RAG systems, MCP frameworks, inference optimization), and leading architecture for agentic AI systems including orchestration, reasoning, and contextual grounding.
As a player-coach, you'll transition seamlessly from executive-level strategic communication to deep-dive code reviews and pair programming with engineers. You'll partner closely with Product Management to translate roadmaps into technical milestones, ensuring investments map to customer value. You'll also influence the design and evolution of company-wide ML/AI Ops foundations, set long-term technical vision, establish architectural guardrails, and ensure adherence to responsible AI principles.
The role requires staying current with rapidly evolving LLM advancements, agent frameworks, reasoning systems, and AI infrastructure. You'll serve as a guiding authority to architects across Twilio, driving company-wide impact and elevating technical standards. Your core mission is transitioning AI/ML concepts from cutting-edge research to resilient, compliant, and cost-effective production systems.
Required: 15+ years software engineering experience with 6+ years building and scaling production-grade ML systems at platform level. Extensive ML Ops and LLM Ops expertise including evaluation metrics, automated retraining, and monitoring for non-deterministic AI features at scale. Deep expertise in design, architecture, and deployment of large-scale ML systems.
