AEVEX is seeking a Senior Aeromechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and autonomous platforms from concept through production. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, taking napkin sketches of aircraft and robotic systems to fielded prototypes.
You will lead a small agile engineering team, making critical design decisions and coordinating across multidisciplinary groups. Key responsibilities include: designing airframes and aeromechanical subsystems; conducting FEA and CFD analysis; building and testing prototype systems; managing design from initial concept through production-ready specifications; and mentoring junior engineers. You'll interface directly with customers, present designs formally and informally, and ensure all work meets project schedules and budgets.
Required expertise: mechanical and aerospace engineering fundamentals (mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, structural dynamics); proficiency in SolidWorks, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience designing machined parts, composites, injection-molded components, sheet metal, and assemblies across manufacturing scales; hands-on testing experience (mechanical, lab, field, flight, environmental); knowledge of GD&T, ASME standards, and configuration management; and demonstrated leadership in technical teams.
Minimum 8+ years progressive engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required. Must be a U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI DoD security clearance. Role is onsite in Tampa with occasional travel and field testing. Periods around deadlines may require extended hours and weekend work in field environments.
