Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing vehicles, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The Avionics Systems team is seeking a Spaceship Electrical Engineer to oversee the design, integration, and testing of avionics systems for the Winnebago spacecraft.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scopes and translate requirements from concept through prototype to full-scale production. Key responsibilities include developing electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets accounting for power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass predictions. You'll analyze system architecture for faults and risks, develop mitigation plans, and work on Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) strategies.
You will conduct comprehensive verification plans for avionics systems on both flight and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) hardware, ensuring readiness for launch and compliance with mission objectives for space and reentry operations. During mission operations, you'll serve as an avionics specialist, determining system health, suggesting corrective actions, and establishing reentry commit criteria.
The role includes designing, building, and operating HITL testbeds that simulate the spacecraft on the ground. You'll develop avionics ground infrastructure, supporting test racks and R&D equipment design and integration. You'll contribute to engineering best practices focused on test automation and efficiency, and mentor new engineers to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
