Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems and reentry capsules. The Avionics Systems team is seeking a Spacecraft Systems Engineer, Electrical to lead the design, integration, and testing of avionics systems for the Winnebago vehicle. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define project scopes and translate requirements from concept through prototype to full-scale production. Key responsibilities include developing electrical architecture, system diagrams, and comprehensive budgets for power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass. You'll analyze system architecture for faults and risks, developing mitigation plans and Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) strategies. You will conduct verification plans for avionics systems on flight and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) hardware, ensuring readiness for launch and compliance with mission objectives for both space operations and hypersonic reentry. During mission operations, you'll serve as an avionics specialist, determining system health, suggesting corrective actions, and establishing reentry commit criteria. Additional responsibilities include overseeing integration of Winnebago avionics systems as the primary point of contact for integrated systems investigations, designing and operating HITL testbeds that simulate spacecraft on the ground, and developing avionics ground infrastructure including test racks and R&D equipment. You'll contribute to engineering best practices, focusing on test automation and efficiency, and mentor new engineers to foster continuous improvement. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, at least 3 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation, and proficiency in Python programming and debugging.
