Relativity Space is building rockets and advanced manufacturing systems to serve commercial and scientific space missions. The Interplanetary Sciences Program aims to democratize access to planetary exploration by making science missions faster, more affordable, and more capable.
As Staff Spacecraft Responsible Engineer, you will own the end-to-end definition, integration, and delivery of the spacecraft bus and its interaction with mission payloads. You serve as the technical and programmatic focal point ensuring spacecraft-level requirements, interfaces, and performance budgets (power, mass, thermal, communications, attitude determination and control) are properly defined, tracked, and met throughout the mission lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining and managing spacecraft-level requirements and interfaces with mission payloads
- Tracking and ensuring performance budgets across all spacecraft subsystems
- Collaborating with internal teams and external spacecraft bus providers from design through operations
- Managing vendor relationships and procurement for spacecraft components
- Leading integration, test, and launch campaign activities
- Supporting mission operations and on-orbit performance monitoring
- Blending systems engineering, vendor management, and hands-on mission execution
You will have significant autonomy and ownership, working on problems that haven't been solved before while contributing to a tangible product with momentum. The role offers high impact and the opportunity to shape decisions across a growing aerospace organization.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline; 7+ years of spacecraft or satellite systems engineering, integration, or mission design experience; proven ability to manage complex systems across multiple vendors and customers; strong understanding of spacecraft subsystems and their interdependencies; experience leading cross-functional teams through integration, test, launch campaigns, or mission operations.
