Salary: USD 131,000 - 184,000 / annual
Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The Flight Software team is responsible for all phases of spacecraft software development—from requirements capture through testing and flight operations.
In this role, you will develop reliable, safety-critical flight software that determines how Varda's spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules operate throughout their missions. You'll write structured bare-metal, RTOS, or Linux-based software in C++ for embedded processors, owning the full development lifecycle: design, testing, integration, verification, and validation. You'll scope projects, capture requirements, conduct design trades for open-ended problems, and ensure system quality through rigorous V&V techniques. This is a hands-on engineering position where you'll collaborate closely with a team of aerospace veterans from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and major pharmaceutical companies.
You'll need a bachelor's degree in computer science, math, physics, or engineering (or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software) and 3+ years developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical systems. Strong C++ expertise is essential. Preferred qualifications include end-to-end spacecraft build/launch experience, real-time embedded systems development, aerospace safety-critical software background, CCSDS telemetry/telecommand knowledge, F' or cFS framework experience, Python or Rust, analog/digital electronics, and familiarity with SPI, I2C, CAN, or EtherCAT protocols.
Varda is headquartered in El Segundo with additional offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, AL. This is an on-site role in El Segundo.
