Varda Space Industries is accelerating commercial space infrastructure development, from in-orbit pharmaceutical processing to reliable reentry capsules. The company designs, builds, and operates W-Series vehicles in-house, including pharmaceutical processing payloads, capsules, C-PICA heat shields, and satellite buses. Varda was founded in 2021 by veterans from SpaceX and Blue Origin, backed by top-tier investors including Khosla Ventures, Lux Capital, and Founders Fund.
The Flight Software team determines how spacecraft behave and operate in orbit, building reliable software across all development phases from requirements capture through test and flight operations. As a Spacecraft Embedded Linux Engineer, you will develop reliable flight software for spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules. You'll write quality structured bare metal, RTOS, or Linux-based software for embedded processors in C++, owning all aspects of software development from design through testing and integration. You'll scope projects including requirements capture and initial design trades for open-ended problems, ensure system quality and performance through software test, verification, and validation (V&V) techniques, and collaborate with a team of experienced engineers.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software, plus 3+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software, and strong C++ development skills. Preferred qualifications include end-to-end spacecraft building and launch experience, real-time embedded systems development, aerospace safety-critical software experience, CCSDS telemetry/telecommand systems, F' or cFS frameworks, Python or Rust, basic analog/digital electronics knowledge, and familiarity with SPI, I2C, CAN, or EtherCAT protocols.
