Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing vehicles and reentry capsules. The Avionics Systems team oversees the design, integration, and testing of avionics for the Winnebago vehicle, ensuring readiness for launch and operational phases.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define project scopes and guide designs from concept through production. You'll develop electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets accounting for power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass. You'll analyze architectures for faults and risks, developing mitigation plans and Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) strategies.
Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive verification plans for avionics systems on flight and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) hardware, ensuring compliance with mission objectives for space and reentry operations. You'll participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist, determining system health and reentry commit criteria. You'll oversee integration of Winnebago avionics systems and serve as the primary point of contact for integrated systems investigations.
You'll design, build, and operate HITL testbeds that simulate the spacecraft on the ground. You'll develop avionics ground infrastructure, including test racks and R&D equipment, and contribute to engineering best practices focused on test automation and efficiency. You'll mentor and train new engineers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, plus at least 3 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation. Proficiency in Python programming and debugging is essential. Experience with avionics systems, spacecraft design, HITL testing, and systems engineering is highly valued.
