Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems and reentry capsules. The Avionics Systems team oversees the design, integration, and testing of avionics for the Winnebago vehicle, ensuring readiness for launch and operational phases in space and during hypersonic reentry.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define project scopes and guide designs from concept through production. You'll develop electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets accounting for power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass. Your work will include analyzing architectures for faults and risks, developing mitigation plans, and designing Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) strategies.
Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive verification plans for avionics systems on flight and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) hardware, participating in mission operations as an avionics specialist, and overseeing system integration as the primary point of contact for integrated systems investigations. You will design, build, and operate HITL testbeds that simulate spacecraft on the ground, develop avionics ground infrastructure including test racks and R&D equipment, and contribute to engineering best practices focused on test automation and efficiency.
You'll also mentor and train new engineers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement. The role requires deep understanding of avionics system design, manufacturing processes, and operational protocols, with the ability to navigate and resolve conflicting requirements across teams.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, at least 3 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation, and proficiency in Python programming and debugging.
