Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. As a Space Systems Engineer, Electrical, you will join the Avionics Systems team overseeing the design, integration, and testing of avionics systems for Varda's Winnebago vehicle. This is a comprehensive role ensuring all systems are mission-ready for launch and operational phases, requiring deep expertise in avionics system design, manufacturing processes, and operational protocols.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define project scopes and guide designs from concept through production
- Developing electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass predictions
- Analyzing architecture for faults and risks, developing mitigation plans and FDIR strategies
- Conducting comprehensive verification plans for avionics systems on flight and HITL hardware
- Participating in mission operations as an avionics specialist, determining system health and reentry commit criteria
- Overseeing integration of Winnebago avionics systems as the primary point of contact
- Designing, building, and operating Hardware In The Loop (HITL) testbeds
- Developing avionics ground infrastructure and test automation
- Mentoring and training new engineers
You will bring at least 3 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required. Proficiency in Python programming and debugging is essential. Experience with spacecraft avionics, power systems, or similar complex aerospace systems is highly valued. You should be comfortable navigating conflicting requirements and resolving technical uncertainties in a fast-paced environment.
