Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses. The company designs, manufactures, and operates these systems in-house, leveraging a team of veterans from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and major pharmaceutical companies.
As a Space Process Engineer focused on Manufacturability, you will partner closely with design and manufacturing teams to develop and optimize production processes and controls for spacecraft hardware. Your role bridges Build Reliability, Quality, Flight Reliability, and Mission Assurance functions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with design engineering and manufacturing teams to create comprehensive test, manufacturability, and inspection plans for all vehicle hardware
- Containing and managing suspect or non-conforming product, providing technical guidance to quality inspectors, technicians, shop supervisors, and engineers
- Leading failure investigations in production, test, and operational environments; identifying root causes and implementing mitigations to reduce risk and improve design and process reliability
- Providing critical peer review of hardware during design reviews and acceptance/qualification test campaigns
- Supporting the scaling of production processes to achieve reliable, verified hardware at manufacturing rate
The ideal candidate is a responsible, collaborative, process-oriented engineer with hands-on experience in hardware design, testing, manufacturing, and troubleshooting. You will work in Varda's El Segundo production facility where vehicles, equipment, and materials are built, integrated, and tested. The company also maintains offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, AL.
