Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The Flight Software team is responsible for all phases of spacecraft software development—from requirements capture through testing and flight operations. In this role, you will develop reliable, safety-critical flight software that determines how Varda's spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operate throughout their entire mission. You'll write structured bare-metal, RTOS, or Linux-based software in C++ for embedded processors, owning all aspects of development from design and testing to integration. You'll scope projects, capture requirements, perform design trades on open-ended problems, and ensure system quality through rigorous verification and validation techniques. This is a collaborative environment where you'll work closely with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems in real-time embedded systems. You'll need a bachelor's degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software, plus 3+ years developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical systems. Strong C++ expertise is essential. Preferred qualifications include end-to-end spacecraft build and launch experience, real-time embedded systems development, aerospace safety-critical software background, familiarity with CCSDS telemetry/telecommand, F' or cFS frameworks, Python or Rust, analog/digital electronics knowledge, and experience with SPI, I2C, CAN, or EtherCAT protocols. Varda is headquartered in El Segundo with additional offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, AL. The company was founded in 2021 by Will Bruey and Delian Asparouhov and is backed by top-tier investors including Khosla Ventures, Lux Capital, and Founders Fund.
