The Avionics Systems team is responsible for designing, integrating, and testing all avionics systems for Varda's Winnebago vehicle, ensuring mission readiness from launch through space operations and hypersonic reentry. In this role, you will lead the comprehensive avionics architecture and integration effort. You'll collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define requirements and guide designs from concept through production. Key responsibilities include developing electrical architecture and system diagrams, conducting power and telemetry budgeting, and analyzing systems for faults and risks to develop mitigation strategies. You will conduct comprehensive verification and validation testing on flight and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) systems, ensuring compliance with mission objectives. During mission operations, you'll serve as an avionics specialist, monitoring system health and determining reentry commit criteria. You'll oversee the integration of avionics systems as the primary point of contact for integrated systems investigations. Additionally, you'll design, build, and operate HITL testbeds that simulate the spacecraft on the ground. You'll develop avionics ground infrastructure, including test racks and R&D equipment, while contributing to engineering best practices focused on test automation and efficiency. The role includes mentoring and training new engineers to foster continuous improvement within the team. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, plus at least 3 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation. Proficiency in Python programming and debugging is essential. Experience with avionics systems, spacecraft design, or aerospace hardware is highly valued.
