Cohere is a leading enterprise AI company building cutting-edge foundation models and end-to-end products for businesses. This Solutions Architect role focuses on growing Cohere's defence business across the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), with Germany as the primary focus.
You will serve as a technical expert and trusted advisor to defence and security organisations, helping them adopt AI securely and at scale. These customers require AI that runs on their own infrastructure—often air-gapped or at the tactical edge—and can handle classified information.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing deep understanding of customer problems and mapping them to Cohere solutions
- Leading technical discussions on customer calls and designing enterprise architectures for on-premises, air-gapped, and sovereign cloud deployments that meet German and EU requirements (GDPR, BSI C5, EU AI Act)
- Designing solutions for classified and disconnected environments (VS-NfD and above, air-gapped, DDIL, tactical edge)
- Conducting deep dives on customer queries and Cohere technology
- Working with customer executives to prioritise use cases, define success metrics, and build business cases for AI adoption
- Translating defence and operational requirements into AI use cases (logistics, maintenance, training, intelligence analysis, staff work)
- Facilitating customer evaluations and pilots
- Owning technical responses to RFPs and public tenders, including defence procurement
- Developing processes to enable the solutions architect team to scale
- Collaborating with Product and Engineering teams
- Working closely with partners (system integrators, defence companies, sovereign cloud providers)
You will sit at the intersection of Forward Deployed Engineering and AI transformation, embodying traits of technical experts, trusted advisors, product evangelists, and thought leaders in applied AI.
Requirements:
- 3+ years in customer-facing technical roles (consulting data scientist, forward deployed engineer, deployment strategist, or solutions architect) taking AI or data solutions from executive problem framing to production
- Passion for Agentic AI with practical understanding of where LLMs deliver value in production and where they don't
- Solid grounding in ML fundamentals (training, evaluation, retrieval) and ability to design evaluation frameworks for customer pilots
- Excellent communication skills—ability to present to CEOs and engage with technical audiences
- Thrive in ambiguity and can establish high-impact structure and processes
- Comfortable with Python and Assistive Coding tools
- Experience in or with the defence sector (Bundeswehr, defence company, federal IT, NATO) and deep understanding of how defence organisations buy and run IT
- Eligible and willing to undergo German security clearance (Sicherheitsüberprüfung under SÜG, Ü2 or higher); existing clearance is a strong plus
- Preferred: experience in German defence market (system integrator, consultancy, RFPs and public tenders)
- Must have: Professional fluency in English and German (C1 or higher, verhandlungssicher)
