Defense Unicorns is seeking a Solutions Architect to bridge customer mission needs, complex hardware platforms, and modern cloud-native software in the federal defense market. This role sits at the intersection of autonomous systems manufacturing, Federal Systems Integration, and commercial technology, working with drone manufacturers, satellite companies, weapons-system developers, and systems integrators.
You will facilitate technical and strategic conversations to understand customer platforms, identify integration opportunities, and define how cloud-native software, data transport technologies, and modern deployment patterns can be incorporated into drones, satellites, weapons systems, and mission-critical platforms. The ideal candidate moves comfortably between executive-level discussions, system architecture conversations, and hands-on technical discovery, translating mission and business requirements into practical architectures that account for constrained, disconnected, intermittent, and bandwidth-limited environments.
Key responsibilities include: conducting technical discovery and architecture conversations with autonomous manufacturers and Federal Systems Integrators; understanding customer platforms, mission requirements, software architecture, data flows, and operational constraints; identifying where cloud-native technologies improve development, deployment, management, and sustainment of software across edge devices and supporting infrastructure; designing architectures for deploying applications in distributed, edge, disconnected, and resource-constrained environments; helping customers understand data transport, synchronization, and software distribution technologies; mapping Defense Unicorns capabilities to customer use cases; partnering with engineering, product, sales, and business development teams; developing reference architectures, technical diagrams, and proofs of concept; supporting Federal Systems Integrators in incorporating solutions into larger programs; advising commercial technology companies on federal deployment considerations; serving as a trusted technical advisor throughout evaluation and adoption; and capturing market signals to inform product strategy.
Success means quickly understanding how customer systems operate, identifying where software and data move through architectures, and where cloud-native approaches create operational value. You will help customers move from broad questions to concrete architectures for how applications are packaged, transported, deployed, updated, secured, and operated across systems.
Desired experience includes designing or supporting distributed, cloud-native, edge, or mission-critical software systems; understanding Kubernetes, containers, software supply chains, application deployment, and DevSecOps practices; familiarity with data transport, messaging, networking, and distributed-system architectures; ability to reason about systems in disconnected, intermittent, limited-bandwidth, or resource-constrained environments; experience with defense, aerospace, autonomous systems, robotics, satellites, or complex cyber-physical platforms; experience with Federal Systems Integrators or DoD organizations; strong technical communication skills; demonstrated ability to lead technical discovery and architecture reviews; and comfort operating in ambiguous environments where architecture is developed collaboratively.
