Cellanome is a well-funded biotech startup developing next-generation technologies to unravel the complexities of biology. The Software Test Analyst 2 role bridges biology and software engineering, reporting to the Associate Director of Software QA. This position owns test coverage for assigned areas across the operator UI, instrument control software, and cloud/desktop analysis software for a sophisticated biological instrument platform.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining comprehensive test cases and test plans for instrument software areas including UI workflows, fluidics control sequences, flow cell operations, imaging acquisition, and data analysis outputs. You will operate the instrument independently during test execution, configuring runs, loading reagents and flow cells, and interpreting instrument behavior to distinguish software issues from expected system responses. The role requires executing functional, regression, integration, and exploratory test cycles while designing test scenarios that account for instrument-specific variables such as reagent types, flow cell configurations, cell concentrations, and imaging parameters.
You will identify, document, and track defects through resolution, participate in requirement reviews and sprint planning to provide QA perspective and flag testability risks early in the development cycle, and collaborate with software engineers to understand new features and hardware changes. A critical aspect of this role is analyzing test results to distinguish software defects from instrument variability, reagent issues, or expected biological noise—requiring solid working knowledge of cell biology, flow cytometry, fluidics, or fluorescence imaging.
Minimum qualifications include at least 2 years of relevant work experience plus a Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or advanced degree with no experience requirement). You must demonstrate ability to write clear, thorough, and maintainable test cases derived from software requirements, have experience with defect tracking tools, solid understanding of SDLC, and ability to communicate testing status, risks, and issues clearly to both software engineers and scientific stakeholders. Preferred qualifications include hands-on laboratory experience operating flow cytometers or automated imaging platforms, ISTQB Foundation Level certification, exposure to test management tools, familiarity with image analysis concepts, and programming language experience.
