Axiom Space is seeking a Software Systems Engineer to support its Commercial Space Station program in Houston, TX. This role owns the definition, integration, and verification of software systems supporting space operations and station infrastructure across the full software development lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include authoring software and system requirements (functional, performance, safety, cybersecurity, interface) using model-based requirements approaches; maintaining bidirectional requirements traceability from ConOps through system, software, design, and test phases; defining interfaces (ICDs), message schemas, timing budgets, and failure behaviors; and leading requirements reviews and change control boards.
The engineer will participate in software architecture trades covering partitioning, redundancy, data flows, and modes/states while collaborating with avionics, network, FPGA, and hardware teams. Responsibilities span planning and authoring verification methods (test, analysis, inspection, demonstration), supporting integration activities across SIL/HIL environments and flight test readiness, and supporting safety analyses including hazard analysis and DAL determinations.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field with 10+ years of systems engineering experience on software-intensive programs. Candidates must demonstrate experience authoring and managing software/system requirements, maintaining requirements traceability, defining and managing interfaces, and planning verification activities. Proficiency with requirements management tools (Jama, DOORS, Innoslate) and hands-on MBSE experience using SysML or equivalent (Cameo, Rhapsody, Innoslate) is required. Working knowledge of JIRA/Confluence and project management practices is essential. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency with ability to pass background check and drug screening is required.
Preferred qualifications include aerospace or spaceflight systems experience (ideally human-rated or safety-critical programs), SIL/HIL integration and test bench experience, safety analysis support, GitLab CI or DevSecOps pipeline experience, and Agile/hybrid development environment experience. INCOSE certification (ASEP/CSEP) is a plus.
