Writer is an enterprise generative AI platform that helps leading companies like Mars, Marriott, Uber, and Vanguard build and deploy AI agents grounded in their data. As a Software Quality Engineer, you'll define and implement comprehensive quality assurance strategies for our AI-powered work orchestration platform, ensuring reliability and trustworthiness of enterprise-grade LLMs and AI agents.
You'll design and develop robust, scalable automation frameworks using Python or TypeScript, collaborating closely with product managers, ML engineers, and data scientists to translate complex AI features into effective test cases. You'll drive continuous improvement of testing processes and infrastructure, integrating automated checks within CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid, high-quality releases. Your responsibilities include identifying and documenting software defects, performing root cause analysis, monitoring production systems and AI model performance, and championing quality best practices across engineering teams.
Key technical focus areas include designing test data strategies and mock services, managing the full defect lifecycle from customer feedback analysis to bug tracking, and experience with agentic AI systems, AI skills, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). You'll work with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and modern testing frameworks like Playwright.
This hybrid role is based in London with flexibility across Writer's hubs in San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, and Chicago. You'll report directly to the Director of Engineering and work in a fast-paced startup environment where you can drive initiatives independently.
