Fanatics Betting & Gaming is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead backend engineering teams responsible for compliance, regulatory, and responsible gaming systems at the core of the Fanatics Sportsbook platform. This role owns critical systems spanning geolocation verification, state and self-exclusion enforcement, responsible gaming controls, customer verification, NJ data residency, and prohibited persons detection.
You will lead Java and AWS-based backend teams that operate at the intersection of customer experience, legal obligation, and platform trust. The systems you oversee gate customer access to the platform and enforce real-time compliance controls including wager limits, session controls, cooling-off periods, and self-exclusion enforcement across all regulated US markets.
Key responsibilities include: establishing operational excellence standards for security and regulatory compliance; partnering with Risk, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure state-level gaming compliance; building and maintaining high-performing, mission-driven engineering teams; driving technical strategy for user sync processes and data consistency across internal and third-party systems; overseeing geolocation and location services infrastructure with high precision and low latency; maintaining prohibited persons detection and blocking systems; and proactively identifying and resolving technical or operational risks.
You will also support and enhance login and registration flows to provide best-in-class customer experience under high traffic loads, establish strong monitoring and alerting mechanisms to detect and mitigate fraudulent activity, and lead the engineering strategy for compliance systems that operate across Fanatics' acquisition funnel and regulatory posture across every live US state.
This is a pivotal leadership role shaping the architecture, processes, and engineering culture that ensure trust, safety, and compliance across the Fanatics Sportsbook ecosystem. Success requires building strong collaborative relationships with Product, Data, Risk, Legal, and Compliance partners to align on strategy, priorities, and outcomes that protect both customers and business integrity.
