Salary: USD 185,000 - 220,000 / annual

The Engineering Department Manager (EDM) is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the engineering team, assigning resources, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. This role reports to the VP of Product Design and is based in San Diego, CA (100% onsite).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members, helping them overcome challenges and find solutions
- Ensure adherence to processes, Standard Operating Procedures, and rigorous design flows
- Maintain effective communication channels between engineering and other departments
- Serve as the point of contact for technical inquiries and issues
- Work closely with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives
- Oversee day-to-day operations and development/execution of projects
- Review ongoing efforts and rectify issues
- Support internal and external design and development reviews with documentation
- Ensure adherence to Voyager quality standards and design/development processes
- Keep the engineering team focused on projects, company goals, and objectives
- Check team work for technical accuracy and validity of methods
- Ensure the team has adequate tools, equipment, software licenses, and training for efficient execution
- Assist in project resource allocations, ensuring efficient allocation and balanced workloads
- Review team members' work schedules and tasks
- Monitor and evaluate engineers' progress
- Support and promote a culture rewarding motivation and cooperation
- Coordinate work with other managers and staff
- Participate in proposals and trade studies, evaluating contractor/subcontractor proposals for technical feasibility
- Review contracts, proposals, and opportunities with emphasis on SOW, technical requirements, data requirements, and compliance statements
- Evaluate and approve strategies to bridge technical, programmatic, and personnel gaps
Requirements:
- Master's or PhD degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent, plus 15 years of industry experience
- C, C++ programming expertise; Python, Matlab, or other scripting and test languages
- Experience bringing up PCBA in at least 2 of: bare-metal, FreeRTOS, Linux, or similar operating systems; understanding of real-time constraints and requirements
- Experience with code repository tools, issue tracking, and agile development processes
- Experience in production of qualified hardware/systems for space
- Capable of multi-tasking and working on multiple projects while supporting production activities
- Strong technical background; capable of coming up to speed quickly on new technologies
- Proficient in personal computing skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) to comply with ITAR and EAR regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with space industries
