Bentley Systems, the infrastructure engineering software company, is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead and develop high-performing software development teams within the Facilities Engineering group. This group is responsible for advancing software and services for Plant, Building, and Structural engineering domains.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for building and leading teams that deliver impactful platform capabilities while creating an environment where engineers can do their best work and grow their careers. Your primary focus will be on people leadership, talent development, and fostering a high-performance culture, though you must establish credibility with technical leads and senior engineers to enable strong partnerships.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading, coaching, and developing your team with a focus on accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance
• Setting clear expectations, providing ongoing feedback, managing performance, and supporting career growth
• Building engaged, inclusive, high-performing teams while identifying and developing future leaders
• Aligning teams around business priorities and ensuring clarity, focus, and support for successful delivery
• Driving accountability for results in partnership with Technical Leads, Product Managers, and peer leaders
• Defining and executing an AI-assisted engineering strategy for the department, aligning AI adoption with organizational objectives and engineering excellence
• Championing Bentley's vision, values, and strategic priorities
• Supporting hiring, workforce planning, retention, and team health initiatives
• Fostering cross-team collaboration and removing performance barriers
• Conducting performance reviews and participating in recruitment and dismissal processes
This is a hybrid role with minimal travel required.
Requirements:
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in an engineering leadership or team lead role
• Demonstrated success developing technical talent through coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development
• Experience designing and establishing team-wide AI-agent workflows and guardrails to maximize engineering output while maintaining quality and security standards
• High emotional intelligence with transparent, collaborative leadership style
• Proven ability to build engaged, high-performing teams and establish credibility with technical leads and senior engineers
• Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with ability to influence across teams and functions
• Ability to create clarity, align teams around priorities, and lead effectively through change and ambiguity
• Understanding of software development practices, engineering team dynamics, and challenges of delivering technology solutions at scale
• Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET Framework
• Proven experience and strong knowledge of C++, C#, .NET, TypeScript, JavaScript, and web development with Node.js and React
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred qualifications:
• General understanding of infrastructure designs, engineering, and construction
• Git (DCVS)
• Backlog management tools (TFS/ADO/Jira)
• Exposure to Azure DevOps
