Salary: USD 210,000 - 280,000 / annual

The company is based in NYC and operates in a results-driven environment focused on product excellence and team impact. We are seeking an Android Engineering Manager to lead our mobile engineering team in New York. This is a hands-on management role (approximately 30% individual contribution) where you will oversee the delivery of key business initiatives, improve existing architecture, and design large-scale data-intensive applications. The Android app is written in Kotlin, built 100% natively without cross-platform frameworks, and uses gRPC to interface with the backend. As the primary interface for members to manage their finances, the mobile experience must be highly performant and intuitive, requiring engineers to think through foundational application infrastructure, reusable UI components, and data-driven decisions. Key responsibilities include: - Provide technical and people leadership to a team of Android engineers, owning team planning, execution, and delivery of high-quality features and platform improvements - Conduct regular one-on-ones, deliver constructive feedback, support career growth, and foster a culture of inclusion, psychological safety, and accountability - Define team priorities, technical roadmaps, and long-term platform investments aligned to business goals - Establish and maintain standards for code quality, testing, performance, and security - Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and backend teams to scope features and ensure successful delivery - Contribute hands-on to the Android codebase, review pull requests, troubleshoot complex bugs, and mentor the team - Deeply understand the product and user experience to make informed technical and architectural decisions You bring 5+ years of native Android development experience and 2+ years in an engineering management role growing high-performing mobile teams. You have a proven track record delivering complex mobile products with robust architecture and maintainable codebases. You excel at time management, cross-functional collaboration, and team capacity planning. Nice-to-haves include experience with Jetpack Compose, developer tools/automation, CI/CD pipelines, and fintech or startup background.
