Verkada is a high-growth physical AI platform protecting organizations through integrated video security, access control, alarms, intercoms, and visitor management. The company serves 30,000+ customers including 100+ Fortune 500 companies, has a $5.8B valuation, and over $1B in annualized bookings.
The Alarms team builds the response layer—software that determines what happens in the minutes after an alarm fires. It combines real-time video, audio, and sensor data to analyze incidents, filter false alarms, and coordinate verifiable action. This platform serves as central intelligence for the alarm product, blending AI-driven automation with human judgment at scale.
As Engineering Manager, you will own this system across three surfaces: the customer incident experience, the monitoring software used by human operators to handle alarms at scale, and integrations that route incidents to emergency dispatch.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define where AI acts autonomously versus where humans decide, partnering with product and monitoring operations teams
- Own the real-time workflow engine modeling response actions post-alarm and the vision-language pipeline adapting SOPs mid-incident
- Set and maintain the reliability bar for a system with no acceptable quiet failure mode
- Hire and grow the engineering team
- Partner with product management on roadmap and with operators using monitoring tools daily
- Work cross-functionally to extend the response layer across the Verkada platform
Required: 2+ years leading and scaling engineering teams; 5+ years building scalable, reliable distributed systems; experience with real-time or high-availability systems where latency and uptime matter; track record driving product outcomes through close PM collaboration.
Nice-to-have: experience architecting and deploying AI-driven workflows in production where model output triggers real-world action; background in mission-critical B2B software or hardware-software systems deployed in the field.
