Elliptic is seeking a Software Engineering Lead to join its Investigations team, leading a team of 3–5 product and data engineers building tools for compliance teams to track fund flows and uncover insights in financial data, particularly in the crypto space. In this role, you will shape the technical direction of Elliptic's investigations platform, which is becoming the industry standard for crypto compliance. You'll work closely with the product team to turn complex data into simple, useful features and lead development of new platform improvements. Key responsibilities include writing and reviewing code to unblock the team and demonstrate best practices; helping the team make sound technical decisions by weighing trade-offs; working with product and stakeholders to ensure meaningful work; coaching team members to build problem-solving skills and self-sufficiency; providing system context to new hires; attending lead meetings to share updates; explaining complex technical concepts to engineers, managers, and business stakeholders; and setting standards for how the team uses AI coding tools, ensuring engineers can explain and own any AI-assisted code before shipping. You should balance technical quality with business needs, write clean and reliable code, communicate technical ideas clearly, mentor team members, focus on meaningful results, and foster a supportive, collaborative team culture. You'll actively use AI coding assistants (Copilot, Cursor, Claude) as part of your daily workflow and critically evaluate AI-generated code. Required experience includes at least 2 years leading and mentoring a team of 3–5 software engineers; strong TypeScript across backend (Node.js/NestJS) and frontend (React/Redux); proven track record architecting scalable UI applications and APIs; experience leading technical initiatives and maintaining high engineering standards; good understanding of data visualization and experience with network graph and transaction flow rendering tools; and familiarity with databases and SQL queries. Bonus qualifications include cloud technologies (AWS Serverless, API Gateway, Kubernetes, Terraform), monitoring tools (DataDog), and interest or experience in cryptocurrency and blockchain. Elliptic offers hybrid working with the option to work remotely up to 90 days per year, £500 remote working budget, £1,000 annual learning and development budget, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, an extra birthday day, enhanced parental leave (16 weeks fully paid), private health insurance, mental health support, life assurance, and a cycle-to-work scheme.
