Resend is a modern email sending platform for developers, with over 4 million users. The company is building infrastructure and tooling to make email better for developers, with a focus on dependability, design, and developer experience.
In this role, you will build and operate anti-abuse systems that protect the platform from bad actors while keeping it open for legitimate senders. You'll own the full stack of trust and safety engineering: real-time enforcement layers operating within millisecond latency budgets, detection pipelines that scale with platform growth, and automations that move from detection to action without manual intervention.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building real-time enforcement systems with strict latency constraints
- Designing signal-to-decision-to-action pipelines across sending, receiving, and account activity
- Creating detection rules and policies that are safe to modify and iterate on
- Detecting and containing account takeovers and leaked API keys by identifying behavioral anomalies
- Closing feedback loops: every enforcement action carries reasoning for measurement and iteration
- Automating investigations, appeals, and bulk actions to scale with volume
- Building and evaluating ML classifiers for spam and phishing detection
- Implementing comprehensive audit trails, logging, metrics, and traceability for all actions
You'll work with a fully remote team of 50 spanning 15 countries, backed by a16z and Y Combinator. The role offers room to shape technical decisions, close collaboration with developers using your systems, and a high bar for product quality and reliability.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
- Deep experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React frameworks (Hono, Next.js)
- Ability to write Go or willingness to learn for latency-sensitive services
- Infrastructure and reliability skills (AWS, CDK, Datadog)
- Comfort with APIs, event-driven architectures, queues, and stateful services
- Experience designing systems that fail safely; treating false positives as bugs
- Strong observability mindset: metrics, logs, tracing, error handling
- Full-stack ownership from frontend to databases and queues
- Proven experience with Postgres and Redis
EXCEPTIONAL FIT (preferred):
- Prior experience in trust and safety, fraud, or security
- Built real-time enforcement systems (rate limiting, rules engines with policy languages like CEL)
- Shipped ML or LLM-based detection in production with precision/recall measurement
- Email protocol knowledge (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounces, complaints, phishing campaigns)
- Database performance tuning expertise (Postgres, Redis)
