Resend is a modern email sending platform for developers with over 4 million users. The company is building infrastructure and tooling to make email better for developers, with a focus on reliability, design, and developer experience.
In this role, you will build and operate anti-abuse systems that protect the platform from bad actors while keeping it open for legitimate senders. You'll own the full stack of trust and safety infrastructure, including real-time enforcement layers, detection pipelines, and automated response systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and run real-time enforcement systems operating within millisecond latency budgets
- Design detection and decision pipelines that span sending, receiving, and account activity
- Develop detection rules and policies with safe change management practices
- Detect and contain account takeover and leaked API key incidents by identifying anomalous behavior
- Close feedback loops on enforcement actions with detailed reasoning to measure detection precision
- Automate investigations, appeals, and bulk actions to scale with platform growth
- Build and evaluate ML classifiers for spam and phishing detection with precision validation
- Implement comprehensive logging, metrics, and audit trails for all enforcement actions
- Ensure all systems fail safely and treat false positives as bugs
You'll work remotely with a 50-person team spanning 15 countries, backed by a16z and Y Combinator. The role offers room to shape technical decisions, close collaboration with developers using your systems, and a high bar for product quality and reliability.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
- Deep experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React frameworks (Hono, Next.js)
- Ability to write Go or willingness to learn for latency-sensitive services
- Infrastructure and reliability skills (AWS, CDK, Datadog)
- Comfortable with APIs, event-driven architectures, queues, and stateful services
- Experience designing systems that fail safely
- Strong observability mindset (metrics, logs, tracing, error handling)
- Full-stack ownership from frontend to databases and queues
- Proven experience with Postgres and Redis
EXCEPTIONAL FIT INCLUDES:
- Prior experience in trust and safety, fraud, or security
- Built real-time enforcement systems (rate limiting, rules engines with policy languages like CEL)
- Shipped ML or LLM-based detection in production with precision/recall measurement
- Email protocol knowledge (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounces, complaints, phishing campaigns)
- Database performance tuning expertise (Postgres, Redis)
