Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced technology. The Strategic Defense team builds software-defined command and control systems to protect against ballistic, hypersonic, and air-breathing threats that arrive in seconds and maneuver mid-flight. Legacy systems cannot respond fast enough, so the team is building autonomy, tracking, simulation, and fire control capabilities that see, decide, and act faster than human operators alone.
You will join the Strategic Defense team as a Software Engineer, working on the Guam Defense System Battle Manager product and helping create a new strategic business line. You'll solve diverse problems involving networking, autonomy, systems integration, and robotics while making pragmatic engineering tradeoffs. The role emphasizes a "Whatever It Takes" mindset—executing expeditiously and pragmatically while keeping the mission top-of-mind and delivering high-quality outcomes on time.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own software solutions deployed to customers
- Write code to improve products and scale mission capability
- Collaborate across multiple teams to plan, build, and test complex functionality
- Create and analyze metrics for debugging and monitoring
- Triage issues, root cause failures, and coordinate next steps
- Partner with end-users to translate needs into features while balancing UX with engineering constraints
- Travel up to 30% of the time to build, test, and deploy capabilities in real-world environments
The role is based in Irvine, CA or Huntsville, AL. Experience with mid and upper tier Air Defense Command and Control programs is a plus.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong engineering background from industry or school in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
- 3+ years working with a variety of programming languages (Python, C++, Rust, Go, JavaScript, etc.)
- Experience building software solutions involving significant data processing and analysis
- Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established code bases
- Desire to work on critical software with real-world impact
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong background in Physics, Mathematics, and/or Motion Planning for modeling & simulation and physical systems
- Developing and testing multi-agent autonomous systems in real-world environments
- Feature and algorithm development with understanding of behavior trees
- Software/hardware development for flight systems and safety-critical functionality
- Distributed communication networks and message standards
- Knowledge of military systems and operational tactics
- Experience with mid and upper tier Air Defense systems in Army, Navy, Air Force, or Missile Defense Agency
