Salary: USD 156,000 - 186,000 / annual
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Software Engineer to join its Simulation Infrastructure team. This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA (3 days/week on-site) focused on building and maintaining in-house simulation services that support cross-functional teams including business development, mission design, operations, and flight/ground software engineering.
You will be a major contributor to simulation tools and products, collaborating closely with the team's physical-modeling experts to integrate numerical computation expertise into complete, production-grade systems. Key responsibilities include building reliable web services and high-performance compute jobs, implementing product improvements based on stakeholder feedback, working with the Software Test team on simulation-based testing scenarios, and contributing to work estimation and planning.
The ideal candidate is a capable generalist software engineer comfortable across the full stack—from backend services to numerical computing. You'll need 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, proficiency in Python and C++, a B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent, and the ability to operate effectively in novel technical domains. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential for cross-team collaboration.
Nice-to-have skills include experience with numerical simulation techniques, statistical analysis, Julia, Linux systems administration, Docker, Kubernetes, Software-in-the-Loop simulation, CI/CD/DevOps practices, and familiarity with orbital satellite operations.
