Salary: EUR 54,000 - 91,000 / annual
Cloudflare is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Security Rules team, working on microservices that power the company's Application Security Product Offering, including Rate Limiting and Web Application Firewall. You will design, implement, and maintain systems that operate at Cloudflare's scale, primarily using Rust alongside Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, Memcached, gRPC, Kafka, and Clickhouse.
Key responsibilities include designing and documenting systems, writing code and automated tests, monitoring production deployments, and collaborating with security, network engineering, SRE, and product management teams to solve complex technical problems. You will participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable code, mentor team members, debug issues in complex distributed systems, and contribute to operational health and improvements.
The role requires strong programming skills in systems-level languages (Rust, Go, C++), experience building and operating distributed systems, and expertise with monitoring, alerting, and debugging high-volume production systems. Experience with databases, modern Unix/Linux environments, and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is highly valued. You should demonstrate curiosity, critical thinking, strong interpersonal skills, and a sense of ownership. The position may require on-call flexibility outside standard working hours to address technical issues.
