Payward Services, the enterprise infrastructure platform behind Kraken, is hiring a Software Engineer to build and scale systems powering trading, payments, funding, and digital asset services. You'll design and implement robust Rust services and libraries that handle real-time coordination across distributed systems, supporting revenue-critical infrastructure for fintechs, banks, brokerages, and payment providers.
In this role, you'll write reusable, testable, and highly efficient code that scales across teams while maintaining safety and security. You'll collaborate on large-scale distributed systems architecture, translating product requirements into resilient, low-latency solutions. Working alongside hundreds of experienced Rust engineers, you'll contribute to a high-performance, product-driven engineering culture with complete end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries.
You'll need 3+ years of software engineering experience with proficiency in writing network services or asynchronous code in Rust. A security-first mindset during system design is essential, along with the ability to autonomously debug issues across the stack (OS, network, application). You should have a solid understanding of distributed systems and technologies including RPC protocols, Kafka, and Event-Driven Systems. Strong collaboration skills with product teams to gather requirements and constraints are important for designing appropriate systems.
