Kraken, a leading crypto exchange founded in 2011 and trusted by over 10 million users globally, is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the Consumer team. The Consumer team builds applications that expose Kraken's trading, staking, and OTC services to mass-market users, with a mission to onboard the next 100 million people to crypto.
In this role, you will design and implement robust Rust services and libraries powering trading, payments, and crypto experiences with a focus on reliability, performance, and user impact. You'll write reusable, testable, and highly efficient code that scales across teams and supports revenue-critical systems without compromising safety or security.
Key responsibilities include collaborating on large-scale distributed systems architecture, translating product requirements into resilient, low-latency solutions, and working alongside hundreds of experienced Rust engineers in a high-performance, product-driven culture. You will take complete end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries, provide mentorship to other engineers, and contribute to defining technical culture.
You bring 3+ years of software engineering experience with proficiency in writing network services or asynchronous code in Rust. You have a security-first mindset during system design, can autonomously debug issues across the stack (OS, network, application), and understand distributed systems including RPC protocols, Kafka, and Event-Driven Systems. You collaborate effectively with product teams, take ownership end-to-end, and mentor peers. The ideal candidate has an extreme eye for detail, passion for world-class user experiences, a "ship fast but don't ship shit" attitude, and is highly self-driven.
