Applied Intuition Defence is seeking a Robotics Software Engineer to develop and deploy autonomous capabilities for next-generation defense platforms across air, land, sea, and space domains. You will work on a diverse range of tasks: some days integrating hardware and software directly onto vehicle platforms and conducting live autonomy testing; other days developing in simulation environments (SIL/HIL) or on-site with customers troubleshooting real-world deployments. Key responsibilities include developing mission behavior, navigation, and decision-making logic for diverse defense platforms; designing modular, reusable autonomy capabilities across vehicle types; integrating autonomy solutions onto embedded Linux platforms with sensor interfacing and data collection; conducting system-level testing and validation; supporting live flight tests on Group 1-5 unmanned aerial vehicles; troubleshooting complex software and integration issues; and collaborating with third-party UAS vendors and cross-functional teams. You will need a BS or MS in Robotics, Computer Science, or related engineering field, plus 3+ years of hands-on experience with robotic systems (hardware, software, integration). Required technical skills include modern C++, autonomy behavior and decision-making logic development (behavior trees, state machines, navigation algorithms), Pixhawk autopilot integration (ArduPilot/PX4), communication bus protocols (UART/RS232/RS422/RS485, SPI/QSPI, I2C, Ethernet), Docker and containerized deployment, Linux-based operating systems, and familiarity with real-time, edge computing, and safety-critical systems. You must be able to hold UK Security Clearance (current or previous preferred) and be willing to travel between offices and customer sites.
