Salary: USD 115,000 - 165,000 / annual
Opal is seeking a seasoned Software Engineer to drive the development of new products and initiatives across their marketing and communications platform. You will collaborate closely with Design, Product Management, and Engineering teams to determine what to build and how to build it, working at the intersection of Product and Engineering to scope projects and plan for the future.
The role involves building client-side interfaces using Javascript/React and TypeScript, and server-side functionality using Ruby/Rails, Elixir/Phoenix, or NodeJS. You will drive the creation, shipping, and maintenance of capabilities across the Opal Platform, including developing APIs, web applications, and microservices. You will leverage technologies like Docker, Redis, Postgres, and ElasticSearch to build scalable and maintainable applications, and write JSON:API compliant API endpoints with test coverage and shared OpenAPI contracts.
A key aspect of this role is working effectively with AI-assisted development tooling as a normal part of development, applying the same standards of quality and review to AI-generated work as to anything else you ship. You will participate in the entire product creative process, including design meetings and technical architecture decisions.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of related Full Stack software engineering experience, with a focus on frontend development
- Passion for building excellent products and creating great user experiences
- Experience developing enterprise-grade, cloud-based web applications and leveraging relational database technologies such as Postgres
- Working proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., coding agents and related workflows), with practical sense of where these tools help and where they need close supervision
- Strong knowledge of web application architecture patterns and pitfalls, with informed opinion about tradeoffs
- Familiarity with frontend Javascript libraries and frameworks, such as ReactJS
- Ability to efficiently create consensus, reach decisions, and deliver value by getting software shipped
- Comfortable with in-person and digital communications, able to articulate and break down information for Designers, Engineers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth, professional environments

- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience required
