Salary: USD 114,000 - 142,000 / annual

New Relic is hiring a Software Engineer to own the query language and gateway stack for NRDB, the proprietary telemetry database at the core of the company's observability platform. You'll work within the Data, Identity, & API Platform group, which builds the foundation for all New Relic products—handling data ingest, storage, and query at massive scale (millions of messages per second, petabytes of data). Key responsibilities include: - Owning the New Relic query language and gateway stack end-to-end - Participating in cross-functional committees with AI, Visualizations, and Data Processing teams to advance the query language and gateway - Building and maintaining scalable distributed Java services and petabyte-scale infrastructure - Investigating and resolving critical performance, availability, and resiliency issues in a multi-region, multi-cloud, multi-tenant distributed database - Working in an agile, DevOps-oriented environment where the team builds and maintains their own software, including on-call rotations Required qualifications: - 1+ years of collaborative software development experience - Strong Computer Science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, modern software design) - Self-starter with strong ownership mentality - Command-line proficiency and ability to troubleshoot complex systems - Experience with Java or equivalent OOP languages (C++, C#, etc.) Bonus experience includes: 24x7 SaaS operations, database implementation, distributed systems, query language design, observability tools, public cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), Kubernetes/Docker, and asynchronous distributed team collaboration. The team is distributed across North America, Europe, and Asia. Visa sponsorship is not available.
