Opto is building the future of private markets technology, serving wealth managers, family offices, and private banks. The global alternative investments industry is forecast to grow to $30T by 2029, yet the private investment process remains opaque, manual, and error-prone. Opto's platform replaces spreadsheets and paperwork with intuitive tools and data-driven guidance for identifying and accessing investment opportunities. As a Software Engineer on the Product team, you'll own end-to-end engineering problems and solutions, turning complex business challenges into elegant software. You'll build intuitive user experiences across all phases of the investment process using a modern tech stack: Typescript/React/Next.js on the frontend, Python FastAPI REST services and AWS Lambda on the backend, all containerized in AWS with fully automated deployments executing multiple times daily. You'll be responsible for delivering high-quality software projects, coordinating with teammates and stakeholders to meet timelines. This includes specification, implementation, code review, QA testing, deployment, and operations. You'll seek context rapidly, iterate on solutions to eliminate ambiguity, and actively participate in engineering recruiting. The role emphasizes individual contribution and ownership within a fast-paced startup environment. Required qualifications include 5+ years of hands-on software development with strong emphasis on individual contribution. You need proficiency in modern Typescript and React, familiarity with Python, REST APIs, and AWS. You should have a strong grasp of frontend development tradeoffs including state management, rendering performance, and component architecture. Experience building and maintaining design systems and reusable component libraries at scale is essential. Strong testing practices (Jest, Vitest, Playwright) and the ability to thrive in ambiguity while executing independently are critical. Background in investment management, fintech, or financial data is a plus but not required.
