With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is building products that remove reading barriers for people with learning differences like dyslexia and ADD. The Platform team is responsible for all backend services including payments, analytics, subscriptions, text-to-speech engines, and external APIs. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will design, develop, and maintain robust APIs that power Speechify's products at scale. Key responsibilities include building and optimizing the public TTS API, internal APIs for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking. You'll oversee the full backend API landscape, enhance performance and maintainability, and collaborate on B2B solutions for enterprise clients. Close collaboration with cross-functional teams ensures backend architecture aligns with product strategy and user experience goals. The ideal candidate has proven backend development experience with TypeScript/Node.js (required), direct experience with Google Cloud Platform, and knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers. Preferred qualifications include Docker and containerized deployment experience, plus proficiency deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes. You should be efficient at ideation and implementation, prioritizing tasks by urgency and impact.
