Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio. The company was named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and received Apple's 2025 Design Award for Inclusivity. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is building products that remove reading barriers for people with dyslexia, ADD, and other learning differences. The Platform team is responsible for all backend services including payments, analytics, subscriptions, text-to-speech engines, and external APIs. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining robust APIs—including the public TTS API and internal systems for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking. You'll oversee the full backend API landscape, optimize for performance and maintainability, and collaborate on B2B solutions for enterprise clients. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to align backend architecture with product strategy and user experience. You'll need proven backend development experience with TypeScript/Node.js (required), direct experience with GCP, and knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers. Docker and Kubernetes experience is preferred. The ideal candidate thinks strategically, thrives in fast-paced environments, is passionate about product decisions, and has strong communication skills. Speechify operates as a flat organization where technical excellence and consistent delivery create leadership opportunities. The company offers competitive compensation, stock options, autonomy, and a commitment to exceptional asynchronous work culture. You'll work at the intersection of AI and audio technology on a product that meaningfully impacts accessibility.
