Twilio is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Platform Engineering to join a critical infrastructure team building and operating highly available, massive-scale distributed systems. The role focuses on designing, deploying, and managing resilient backend services that process billions of transactions during peak events. Key responsibilities include: • Design, build, and operate Kubernetes clusters at scale, managing zero-downtime upgrades, node draining, and pod disruption budgets across AWS and Azure environments • Drive code quality through rigorous reviews, establish maintainable patterns, and enforce high testing standards (unit, integration, component testing) • Manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and enhance observability through standardized metrics, alerts, and distributed tracing • Identify and address technical debt, system bottlenecks, and single points of failure while balancing feature delivery with platform refactoring • Mentor junior engineers, lead technical sprint planning, and share expertise across distributed engineering teams Required qualifications: • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating resilient backend services at scale using Kubernetes • Hands-on experience with container orchestration platforms (CAPI, EKS) and managing Kubernetes cluster upgrades • Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot) or strong willingness to learn • Experience implementing GitOps workflows with ArgoCD and automated pipeline orchestration • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform • Strong understanding of distributed systems, observability, and production reliability Twilio is a remote-first company with a global, inclusive culture. While fully remote, engineers may be asked to report in-person on an ad-hoc basis for team gatherings, functional off-sites, or customer meetings.
