Twilio is seeking a Software Engineer for Platform Engineering (L2) to join a team building highly available, large-scale distributed systems. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on backend services that process billions of transactions at scale.
You will work alongside senior engineers on Twilio's dual-cloud infrastructure spanning AWS and Microsoft Azure. Key responsibilities include designing and operating Kubernetes-based services, contributing to Terraform-based infrastructure automation, writing production code to maintain distributed system health, and participating in code reviews with established testing standards.
The role emphasizes customer-centric thinking—understanding how your work impacts end users—and ownership across code quality, infrastructure, and observability. You'll support cloud configurations in both AWS and Azure environments, maintain observability coverage including metrics and alerts, and help identify and flag technical debt and system issues.
You'll grow through active mentorship from senior engineers, participate in sprint planning, and share learnings with peers as you progress toward more senior roles. The team uses modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate development and skill-building.
Required qualifications: 1–2+ years of professional software engineering experience with exposure to building or operating backend services using Kubernetes. Familiarity with basic Kubernetes operations (deployments, pods, services) is expected. Practical experience with or strong willingness to learn AI-assisted development tools is required. Some exposure to GitOps workflows (e.g., ArgoCD) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Harness) is needed, with willingness to learn Twilio's specific tooling on the job.
Twilio is remote-first and values diverse backgrounds. The company may request ad-hoc in-person attendance for team gatherings, functional off-sites, or customer meetings.
