Benchling is an AI platform for biotech R&D used by over 200,000 scientists globally, including major biopharma companies like Sanofi and Moderna. The company is rebuilding biotech for the AI era by embedding AI agents and models directly into scientific workflows. As a Software Engineer on the Platform team focused on Developer Experience, you will be a technical leader responsible for empowering Benchling's engineering organization through tooling and infrastructure. You'll work closely with Developer Productivity and Release Engineering teams to create tools and frameworks that enhance developer experience, with a particular focus on the Path to Production. Key responsibilities include: - Building and implementing tooling for efficient, frictionless development, testing, and packaging for production release - Leading the design and development of release tooling that enables code changes to reach production within 10 minutes - Iterating on developer experience improvements using qualitative and quantitative feedback - Implementing feedback loops that integrate quality into software development workflows - Championing effective engineering and operational patterns across the Engineering organization - Collaborating with cross-functional teams (product, design, engineering) to address workflow challenges that impact developer happiness and productivity - Helping rapidly scale the product and team by maturing tooling, best practices, engineering processes, and hiring You should have 4+ years of software engineering experience with expertise in at least one web framework (preferably Node or Python). You ship code quickly, care about real-world impact, and approach tool-building with a product-first mindset. Strong problem-solving abilities, ownership mentality, empathy for customers, and clear cross-functional communication are essential. While prior life science knowledge is not required, a genuine desire to learn about the domain is important. Benchling offers a flexible hybrid arrangement with expectations to be on-site 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday).
