Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, articles, and websites into audio. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify operates a flat organizational structure. The Platform team is responsible for building and maintaining all backend services including payments, analytics, subscriptions, text-to-speech engines, and external APIs. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining robust APIs—including the public TTS API and internal systems for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking. You'll oversee the full backend API landscape, optimizing for performance and maintainability while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align backend architecture with product strategy. Key responsibilities include designing scalable APIs that meet business requirements, enhancing backend infrastructure, collaborating on B2B solutions for enterprise clients, and working closely with product and frontend teams. The ideal candidate has proven backend development experience with TypeScript/Node.js (required), direct GCP experience, and knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers. Docker and Kubernetes experience is preferred. You should be efficient at ideation and implementation, able to prioritize based on urgency and impact, and thrive in fast-paced environments.
