Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, articles, and websites into audio. The company was named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and received Apple's 2025 Design Award for Inclusivity. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify operates a flat organizational structure where technical excellence and results drive advancement. The Platform team is responsible for building and maintaining all backend services including payments, analytics, subscriptions, text-to-speech engines, and external APIs. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining robust APIs—including the public TTS API and internal systems for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking. You'll oversee the full backend API landscape, optimizing for performance and maintainability while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align backend architecture with product strategy and user experience. B2B solutions and enterprise client customization are also key responsibilities. Ideal candidates have proven backend development experience with TypeScript/Node.js (required) and direct experience with GCP, plus knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers. Docker and Kubernetes experience is preferred. The role demands efficiency in ideation and implementation, with ability to prioritize based on urgency and impact. You'll work in a fast-paced environment where strategic thinking, solid communication, and obsession with winning are paramount. The company values innovation, intuition, and drive, offering autonomy to foster focus and creativity. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and audio in a rapidly evolving domain, building products that change lives for people with learning differences like dyslexia and ADD.
