In this platform engineering role, you will own the foundational systems, tools, and primitives that product engineers depend on daily. Your work directly shapes developer workflows, reliability, and engineering velocity across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning internal platforms, developer tooling, and shared infrastructure that enable faster product work
- Turning repeated patterns into reusable platforms and one-off fixes into durable systems
- Developing a clear point of view on how engineers should work, then translating that vision into code and systems
- Operating effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments while steadily building solid foundations without slowing momentum
- Removing entire classes of errors through better abstractions and system design
- Becoming the go-to person when systems break or need evolution, and advising leadership on platform direction
- Building infrastructure that quietly unlocks velocity across teams
You will balance long-term thinking with practical execution, making judgment calls between ideal solutions and shipping speed. This role expects you to help define and build the platform's direction rather than execute against a tightly scoped roadmap.
Outtake operates as an in-person team in Brooklyn (5 days/week, with flexibility as needed), prioritizing collaboration, speed, and clarity. The company offers 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision; flexible PTO; and regular in-person events and annual retreats.
Requirements:
- Track record of building and owning foundational systems that other engineers depended on, with experience living with the consequences of those decisions
- Ability to ramp quickly, operate in ambiguity, and make progress without fully specified problems
- Understanding of the tension between ideal solutions and velocity, with good judgment on when to pursue each
- Instinct for leverage and preference for systemic fixes over one-off solutions
- Clear point of view on how engineers should work, with drive to turn that into code, tooling, and defaults
- Experience working closely with other engineers or teams as an enabler, not just implementer
- Desire to help define and build platform direction rather than execute fixed roadmaps
- Nice to have: experience building or owning internal platforms, developer tooling, or shared infrastructure
- Nice to have: experience with agentic systems, LLM platforms, or large-scale data ingestion pipelines
- Nice to have: track record of being the person people turn to when systems get weird or unclear
