As a Backend Engineer on the Platform team, you will build core systems that make Mercor's operations secure, reliable, and scalable. The role focuses on two critical areas:
Contracts: Develop backend infrastructure enabling flexible work arrangements and payment mechanisms for the expert network. This work expands product capabilities and supports higher-quality foundational model development.
Identity & Access: Design and maintain systems that provision and deprovision access just-in-time, ensuring experts can securely perform diverse tasks across the platform.
You'll own foundational systems at the heart of Mercor's platform, requiring strong architectural judgment and a focus on security and reliability. This is ideal for a generalist backend engineer who enjoys building core systems end-to-end. Experience with identity systems or enterprise access management is a strong plus.
Key responsibilities include developing robust infrastructure for platform operations (contracts, payouts, fraud prevention), collaborating with engineering leads and cross-functional partners to translate operational needs into reliable services, improving security and developer ergonomics, and contributing to a fast-moving engineering organization where strong backend engineers flex across teams and high-priority initiatives.
Requirements: 2+ years building production systems at scale; experience with identity, access control, or enterprise access management is strongly preferred; ability to work with ambiguous requirements and deliver practical solutions quickly; high ownership mindset and willingness to tackle foundational problems supporting multiple business areas.
