As a Software Engineer - Planning, you will design and implement navigational planning algorithms for autonomous ground vehicles operating in complex off-road and on-road terrain using local sensing. The role requires balancing algorithm fidelity and optimality against computational efficiency and robustness for high-speed movement in punishing terrain. You will work with both classical and learned approaches to planning under uncertainty, leveraging experience with unmanned ground vehicles and understanding the benefits and limitations of prior maps.
Key responsibilities include: designing and implementing planning algorithms for autonomous ground vehicle navigation through complex off-road terrain; collaborating frequently with perception and control teams to create integrated solutions; supporting rapid integration and adjustment of planning algorithms across diverse vehicles and sensing modalities; contributing to shared codebase development; leveraging significant offroad driving datasets to improve performance through regression and progression testing; and participating in field tests, demonstrations, and product evaluation events.
This is an individual contributor role focused on algorithm development and implementation, with cross-functional collaboration but no direct people management responsibilities.
