Snowflake's Openflow team is building a next-generation, open, extensible data integration platform for real-time, scalable, bi-directional data movement. The platform is powered by Apache NiFi and enables customers to move structured and multi-modal unstructured data across any source and sink—Snowflake and non-Snowflake alike—through a single, cloud-native platform supporting batch and streaming workloads across Snowflake-managed and Bring Your Own Cloud data planes.
As a Software Engineer on the Openflow team, you will design and implement features in the control plane and data plane, contributing to reliable, scalable, and secure services powering real-time data movement. You'll work on distributed systems for batch and streaming workloads, enabling high-throughput, low-latency data pipelines. You will design, scope, and deliver small projects end to end—from requirements clarification and technical design through implementation, testing, rollout, and improvements—with guidance from senior engineers, and contribute to medium-sized projects with appropriate support.
You'll operate and support the components you build, including monitoring, on-call participation, incident response, and post-incident reviews. You'll apply solid engineering practices including clean code, robust testing, observability, security, and documentation. Collaboration is central: you'll work closely with peers across engineering, product, and design to clarify requirements, create technical plans, and communicate progress and risks.
You'll analyze and improve performance, scalability, and reliability of existing services using metrics, profiling, and experimentation. You'll contribute to code reviews, design discussions, and team knowledge sharing, including mentoring interns or onboarding newer engineers. You'll also contribute to shared platform tooling and patterns to help teams build, deploy, and operate high-quality connectors and runtimes.
Ideal candidates have 2+ years of industry experience building and operating backend or platform services with hands-on distributed systems work. You should have strong computer science fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, systems design), practical experience with distributed systems concepts (concurrency, replication, partitioning, streaming, fault tolerance), and solid understanding of operating systems and networking. Proficiency in Java, Scala, Go, or C++ is required, along with experience in large, shared codebases and cloud-native services on AWS, Azure, or GCP. A BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience is expected. Bonus experience includes data integration, observability, streaming/flow technologies (Apache NiFi, Kafka, Flink, Airflow), or analytics/data platforms.
