The Online Giving team owns the core giving experience on the GiveCampus platform: mobile-first Giving Forms and Giving Pages, payment processing across Stripe, ACH, and Digital Wallets, recurring giving, Memberships, and the tools schools use to build and personalize fundraising campaigns. Every donation that moves through the platform passes through this team's code.
As a Software Engineer on this team, you will own features and small-to-medium projects end-to-end, partnering with your Tech Lead, Product Manager, and Designer. You'll work on full-stack development where correctness genuinely matters—donations must balance to the penny—and where conversion improvements directly translate into dollars raised for education.
Current team priorities include migrating ACH payments to modern Stripe APIs, building a new block-based, API-driven campaign builder, growing Memberships out of beta, and shipping Smart Ask Amounts personalization. The team runs Agile with one-week sprints and ships to production multiple times daily.
Key responsibilities:
- Build and maintain donor-facing giving forms, pages, and admin tools with focus on conversion, accessibility, and mobile-first design
- Build and harden payment flows (one-time, recurring, memberships) across Stripe, ACH, and Digital Wallets with reliability and observability
- Work across the full stack: UI components, backend services, database queries, and performance optimization
- Own features end-to-end: technical design, coding, testing, deployment, and production support
- Partner closely with pod members to turn user needs into technical solutions
- Participate in sprint planning, story scoping, and estimation
- Write clean, well-tested, well-documented code and engage in thoughtful code review
- Contribute to technical debt refinement and coding standards
- Participate in interviewing and onboarding
- Support the platform on a rotational basis, including paired 24/7 on-call rotation
Tech stack: Ruby on Rails, React, Postgres, Redis, Stripe/Spreedly/PayPal, AWS with ArgoCD and Kubernetes.
The role sits on a clear growth path; engineers who take on larger projects, deepen architectural judgment, and mentor others grow into Senior Software Engineer roles.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of hands-on, real-world development experience
- Full-stack proficiency: modern front-end framework (React or Vue.js) plus backend language/framework (Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Python, or similar); Rails and React preferred
- Experience contributing to technical design discussions and breaking down features into well-scoped, incrementally shippable work
- Solid SQL database skills: schema design, query writing and optimization, data integrity
- Experience building and integrating with RESTful APIs
- Test-driven mindset: unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar) and CI/CD pipelines
- Good debugging instincts, including in production; judgment to balance shipping speed against maintainability
- Clear communication, comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities, genuine ownership from conception through deployment
- User-focused mindset: thinking about how engineering decisions impact donors, school administrators, and fundraising results
BONUS:
- Payments experience (Stripe, ACH, digital wallets, webhooks, idempotency, retries, reconciliation, third-party testing)—strongest signal for this team
- Ruby on Rails and RSpec experience
- Consumer-facing checkout or donation flow experience
- Fundraising, crowdfunding, fintech, or e-commerce product background
- Caching, observability tooling, or performance/stability triaging
- Eye for intuitive, user-friendly front-end design
